Our Moments in Time
Talofa my hunnies and after weeks of being MIA, welcome back to another blog post by your favourite wanna be writer, Lia. As usual, grab a shnack (u r the shnack ;), get warm, get comfy and get ready.
This week, I want to talk about moments. Moments in time to be specific. These past few weeks that I have been away, I was able to once more discover beauty that laid beneath my bland life and I found this beauty in moments. With family. With friends. With 1/18 boyfriends. By myself. In my car. In my bedroom. In the back of a ute watching the sunset. In cold fields star gazing. Moments.
I consider the most important moments of life, to be the 10 seconds where you feel the need to pause and just appreciate where you are, what you're doing, what you are seeing. Moments. When despite the rush of adrenaline, the rush of traffic, the rush of life, you just need to pause and smile at yourself, knowing that everything will be alright. Moments. Where you are able to look behind you and feel comforted knowing your family is still there, when you look beside you and appreciate a partner, and when you look above you, and realise that there is a God that still cares for you.
Even though these moments seem to come to you, sometimes, the BEST moments in your life, are discovered by yourself unexpectedly . Story time, a "friend" and I set out to find the best spot to watch the sunset and to star gaze (I know, some palagi girl typa shiz). And when we arrived and parked at the top of the hill, we filled the ute tray with pillows and blankets to comfort during the cold. As the sun set i sat on the edge of the tray as old mate laid down. I thought this heffa was taking this opportunity to take cute photos of me and the sunset, so i did what any girl would do, and tilted my head to a 45 degree angle and flexed my entire neck and face, to get rid of my double chin, waiting for him to take the photos. After a few minutes of Lydia flexing and sucking in her stomach, I laid down to see old mates screen and this chigga was scrolling through facebook. Ask me if I was cut...
Anyways, after i realised I'm not an instagram model, I jumped off my phone and sat up to watch that sun set and SHIT was it pretty!!. The red that collided with a dark orange, fading into a yellow, surround by a screen of greys and blues. The hills tops in the distance, green, greys, browns. The light of the sunset revealing the outline of the houses in the next town over.
Moments. The 10 seconds that i took my eyes off my phone, allowed me to put my camera down, and to have my eyes indulge in the moment. Allowed me to feel and to be PRESENT. Time flew by and soon, we were playing connect the dots with the stars and man, for a big girl, i sure felt small compared to the moon. The stars shun bright like the do every other night, but I grew a bigger appreciation for them just because i was seeing them before my eyes and not through a screen saver. Never underestimate the affect that one moment can have on the rest of your life.
Everyone, no matter what life you live, how fast or how slow, you have moments like these right before your eyes. In a world that is moving incredibly fast, know when to just stop. Take a deep breath in and recognise, that you are here. You are present. This is one of your thousands of moments. The days can get long but understand that it only gives you the chance to find the moments worth remembering. A mother, holding her child for the first time and realising that she never knew she could love something so much. A father, seeing their child happy. Me, thinking i was getting good instagram shots... You may not know just exactly when your moment is about to hit, but trust me when i say, when it does, embrace the shit out of it.
